Further to the Pyramid Principle, the founder, Barbara Minto is the thought leader on logically structuring facts and ideas. She is especially well known for being the founder and author of The Minto Pyramid Principle. In fact, I have never read her book. In recent days, I reviewed effective business course, because of the mention of Pyramid Principle, I want to know more knowledge and apply this Pyramid Principle to my work.
My English teacher, Dolly, told us that the five-step approach of business proposal evolved from Pyramid Principle. And she taught us how to report problems to our Director according to the five-step approach.
For example, in our production line, assume a staff member misuses machine XX, and this machine go wrong to affect productivity. We need to follow the below principles and report this problem to our leader:
① Explaining the problem
First, we need to report what the problem is. “The XX machines broke down yesterday”.
② Explaining the cause
After having reported the problem, we need to tell him the cause of the accident; “because the software has a bug, caused by staff misusing the machine”.
③ Effect
Don’t forget to explain how it affects us. “The result is that production has been stopped”.
④ Solution
After we have reported the above three points, please give some ideas to solve this problem, because team leader will pay special attention to our views. For instance, the above problem, the solution is that “We need to reinstall the software by Monday 8 am, which will cost $30million.”
⑤ Consequences
Finally, we must tell leader serious consequences if he rejects our ideas.
“Otherwise, production will not begin on Monday and our customer orders will be delayed.”
About the above case, we should report this problem like this:
“Sir, the machine XX broke down yesterday, because the software has a bug, caused by staff misusing the machine. The result is that production has been stopped. We need to reinstall the software by Monday 8 am, which will cost $30 million. Otherwise, production will not begin on Monday, and our customer orders will be delayed.”

As a matter of fact, in my memory, I have never truly learned Pyramid Principle, not to mention how to standardize the using of Pyramid of the Four Elements into writing and reporting to the related leader. Beginning today, I plan to start studying it and expect to apply its essence to my diary.
Talking about a typical Pyramid, we know that sitting at the top is the “cap stone”, which is supported by a layer of stone blocks or pebbles underneath. In turn, this layer of stones and pebbles is supported by another layer of similar material beneath them. When layer after layer of stones and pebbles are put together, a pyramid is formed.
Analogously, in writing, the cap stone is the summary or the conclusion of the presentation, which is supported by layers and layer of horizontally and vertically cohesively structured facts and evidence. In short, the Pyramid Principle teaches us how to write clearly so that readers can easily comprehend.

It is late and time to go to bed. I regret that I am not able to express its four elements because my limited English level, but I will do my best and try to explain them in coming days.

Today I want to talk about why I seldom used QQ chatting tool. We all know that QQ is china’s largest instant messaging service. Bai Du research illustrates that it has over 780 million monthly active user accounts worldwide. Needless to say, QQ is also the most popular chatting software in china. In fact, in the today’s China, many pupils have made their own QQ.
I have used QQ for more than ten years; however, I have always had an ambivalent attitude for this chatting tool. Sometimes, it took me more than one hour to focus on my friends’ space when I finished my work. Last year, because I often delayed my personal schedule until finally, I deleted this software for several months. However, since many friends of my concern like to stay there, plus, most of new friends prefer to communicate with QQ. Therefore, I don’t use this software very often.
In recent two months, I paid special attention to writing English diaries and stopped focusing on myfriends’ QQ space. From my point of view, using QQ to chat is a bit boring.

For these days, it was too busy to writing diaries. However, there are many meaningful things I want to write down for remembering.
Three days ago, I was going on a trip with my friends. It was wonderful that enjoying myself without anything upset in the nature. Maybe we have devoted ourselves to work for long time, each of us felt much happy when we are walking in the country thought the sun shined fiercely. We went to travel this Sunday without any discussion before, the sudden determination gave me us much surprise. As someone said, “Don’t want to, just decide.”
In our life, we always look forward to the things we interest in the other days, which lead to not realize that today will be gone soon without coming back. Therefore, we need to appreciate each day more no matter what is going on now. Making a detail plan for tomorrow is my routine work now, I hope I can stick to it and make full use of my time.
