February 14, Friday, Sunny (Lantern Festival)
Lantern Festival is a China’s traditional festival, an important part of Spring Festival, and the official end of the long holiday. It’s a little pity that today isn't a national holiday. Routinely, we still go to work as the usual.
In the today’s diary, I am going to document a number of interesting things that occurred during the Spring Festival break.
My going home trip was worse than a nightmare
On the Eve of Chinese New year, my cousin took me to Shenzhen Airport to catch a 9 o’clock flight Chengdu. But the flight was delayed for two hours due to weather problems. While on route to Chengdu, we were told that due to weather condition we had to land in Guiyang instead. We arrived in Guiyang around midnight, and we were arranged the hotel to wait for further notice. It was almost three o’clock in the afternoon when we finally arrived at Chengdu Airport. As soon as I got off the plane to hurry to the bus stop, bought a ticket and got on the homeward bound bus. When I got home, it was nine o’clock New Year night.
I was thrilled to see my parents
Knowing I was coming home on the New Year Day, my father prepared my favorite dumplings. He gave me a warm greeting when I arrived. My mother, she looked a little upset and told me off because I got home late, but I know this is her way to show her care and love, Decades have passed, and she has not changed this habit.
I had many happy days at home
Though it was cold, and I had to put on my down jacket every day even inside the home, I was very happy. Every day, my mother was required to go to work, she got home until 8 o’clock in the evening, since my dad got up early in the morning, and he was responsible for cooking breakfast and buying vegetables, and I was in charge of cooking lunch and dinner. But the happiest moment came when we had dinner together.
From time to time, I liked to go shopping with my father and grandpa. I bought a few clothes for my parents and grandpa. They liked my taste, especially my grandpa. Talking about my grandpa, he is 84 year-old, has four sons and two daughters. He has a very mild temper, likes to stay in the village and grow vegetables, he wouldn’t allow us to persuade him to retire because of his age. He is such an amiable person, and I wish him good health and longevity.
Visiting my relatives has been fun
Visiting relatives is also a tradition in our area. This festival I visited my aunts on February 6 and 8, actually. Since I haven’t seen them for years, they cordially invited me to their homes, and prepared much the best food for me. Since I didn't want to gain much weight during the Spring Festival, I just tried to eat vegetables and dumplings during the Spring Festival.
Returning to work was hard
The twelve-day vacation was over in a blink. Though I really enjoyed staying at home with my parents, I could not but leave home and return to work on February 10. 27 hours train ride from Nanchong to Huizhou was long trip, I felt much exhausted when I stepped into my dormitory.
Epilog
Since I came back to work, three days have passed. I sincerely hope one of these days, I will able to travel and visit my parents once a month just like what my boss has been doing.
