Before we get bored, let’s have this forum started.

Chapter 1 topics are simple and straight forward but very important. Misuse of verb tenses can confuse your readers and lead them to conclusions that are not what you try to say.

Three verb tenses are included in Chart 1-1: simple present, simple past and simple future. For most verbs, we add an “s” or “es” to the end of a verb to tell what is going on right now (e.g., a universal truth). For the past tense situation, there are exceptions, we add an “ed” at the end of the word. For the simple future tense, we usually add the word “will”, “shall”, or “is (verb to be) going to” in front of the simple present form of the verb.

Chart 1-2 talks about the progressive (continuous) tense of verbs. Basically, for most verbs, we simply add “ing” to the end of the word. However, there are rules and exceptions that we must follow.

Assignment: Please read Chart 1-3 through Chart 1-5 and use the verbs shown in Chart 1-6 to make several sentences to tell, for example:

I was ...

I am ...

I will ...
